Thanksgiving WITH the Turkeys

Today turned out to be quite a nice day. We left mid-morning to drive down to Poolesville, Maryland to The Poplar Springs Animal Sanctuary for their "Celebrate Thanksgiving WITH the Turkeys" potluck celebration. There were tons of people there, so you can imagine how much good food there was. We were thrilled to have so many vegetarian food options in one place, that we totally overdid it, in the true gluttonous tradition of Thanksgiving. But, it was a lot of fun. The kids also enjoyed conversing with the turkeys, petting the goats, and watching the pigs eat pumpkins. The scenery was beautiful and the weather was clear and crisp, so it made for a nice backdrop to a fun day.

I guess we're continuing the potluck theme tomorrow, with our next Western Maryland Vegetarian Society potluck. We've now got space at our church, so we don't have to hold it in our home. We're hoping to get a good turnout with a public location.

The kids are listening to a Laurie Berkner CD, and coloring, so I hate to get up and disrupt the groove they're into. It's a rare thing that they sit side by side without bickering or pestering each other. Darren has retreated to the basement to watch hockey, as he didn't want to disrupt them, either, by turning on the TV up here. I guess he recognized what a rarity that scenario was, too.

I hope everyone's having a great weekend!
