Culture Shock

Well, we arrived two days ago in Belleoram, Newfoundland. What a culture shock… There is a population of about 600 people, and there's not a shopping mall or restaurant for more than 150 miles in any direction… nothing but amazing scenery, wilderness and the odd small village scattered here and there. My in-laws place is old, and in the process of being renovated, but the views of the bay are spectacular, and the air is perfect… not too hot, not too cold and just slightly damp… Joe is still Mr. Itchy, but overall he's looking better… since we left his face has at least not been weepy and raw… just a little red at times and dry…

The people are great… although I don't understand them half the time. Their accent is almost Scottish sounding, but thicker… Life is different here… people just roam the streets and walk right in your house if you leave the gate open… There are tons of kids around, so Flo is having a great time…

Anyway, there's a concert going on down at the community center tonight, and tomorrow is the big yearly event called the Ironskull Festival… Saturday Darren's sister and her husband and kids will be arriving and staying a week, so there will be a full house…

Off to relax a bit…
