Playgroup, ice skating and a birthday party have been the highlights of the past few days. Playgroup on Friday was small, but Joe slept through most of it, so it was quite relaxing.
Flo had a great time at her ice skating lesson on Saturday. We're already seeing quite a bit of progress, which is fun to watch. Joe also loves being out there, although he got a blister from his hockey skates this week, and didn't make it around too many times.
Today the kids got to go to a birthday party for one of their playgroup pals, Conner, who turned 9 today. The party was at Chucky-Cheese. I'm not a major fan of the place, and the last time we went for someone's party a couple years ago, Joe was covered in hives by the time we left, even though he didn't eat any food there. But, today was a much better experience… no hives. I brought food for the kids, since Joe can't eat the pizza or the cake, and Flo had eaten pizza for the first time in a long time over the weekend, and threw up all over the hall in the middle of the night. Lovely. So, we decided to brown bag it today, but the kids still had a great time. I, on the other hand, feel like I ran a marathon.
Our main academic accomplishments of the week have been just doing some math problems on plain paper… Flo likes me to make up problems for her to solve. We also are still reading the "A Wrinkle in Time" book, because we keep getting distracted with other short stories. Flo also got some great addition flash cards, and some word family flash cards, which she likes to do before we read at night, because Daddy is home to keep Joe busy, and we get some quiet time alone.
Flo is starting piano lessons this week, so she's excited about that. She's enthusiastic now, but I'm wondering if that will remain once she realizes she actually has to practice to learn to play. We'll see.
